I've been here over a month now. That's not even a blink to some of you, I know. So don't rub it in. But it's a long time for me. I've stopped looking for a way out, stopped hoping just to wake up in my own bed with my cat and my heavy curtains to keep the sun out. This is real. This is my life.

Damn.

I think shopping with a credit card is adventurous. Or trying out a new hair dye. But I can't do the rustic thing. I guess I've just been too spoiled.

This will be an interesting question for you...

What is a credit card?

WHAT?

You can't be serious.

You don't have credit cards?

Wow. So there's no credit. Hm. That's a downer.

You should see the places where the parsoners aren't even allowed to look at money.

What do you mean? Like they've taken some holy vow to poverty?

No. They're mistreated by sorcerers in my world who are gifted with magic. Parsoners are not.

Well, that's not something unique to wherever you come from.

Although I am still appalled you've never heard of credit cards.

They're pieces of plastic, by the way. People usually whip them out when they want to buy high priced items they don't actually have the cash for. The merchant swipes the card, they sign a slip acknowledging they're going to pay for it in the future (usually in monthly installments). Unfortunately, a lot of people never do. They just let the bills keep coming, and the interest adds up. And the bill collectors never get their money.

Hm. Nothing like that where I'm from.

Do you get paid for your, er, job?

Doesn't matter to me actually. I don't have to do what I do.

You're a volunteer, more or less?

That's probably the best description.

I don't do much for free.

Money isn't the big priority in most places in my world.

Touche.

Well, that's an important priority for me as well - though I don't find my life threatened on a daily basis.
